What photography means to me

My photographic interests are extensive, from encapsulating the beauty of the various landscapes to be found around the United Kingdom to macro-photography of flowers using a specially constructed indoor lighting system. Aiming to get the best from the natural light afforded by early mornings and late afternoons, I try to vary my photographic excursions to different places through the year to capture a range of subjects. These include: living museums to bird life to architectural features, both old and new. A particular interest of mine is taking pictures inside churches and cathedrals where the light range offers a big challenge and is best dealt with using technical aids such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques. I tend to avoid portraiture, weddings and people photography unless the subjects form part of a bigger picture. I also undertake projects for charities and worthy causes. A number of assignments have been completed to deliver specific images for inclusion in the websites of businesses and local schools.

CPAGB

An active member of the Cheltenham Camera Club, I achieved a CPAGB merit from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain in 2010. I regularly enter both local and national photographic competitions, continuously striving for the perfect photograph.

Technical Aspects

With a background in IT, I find technology and computing combines well with photography in many ways. After a period of using film based Minolta equipment and doing some work in a darkroom to obtain C&G photographic qualifications, I have moved to be almost entirely digital using a range of Canon cameras and lenses. These include a 5D Mk1, a 7D and a G9 compact camera. Lenses are Canon 24-105 f4 IS L, Canon 70-200 f4 IS-L, Canon 50mm f1.8, Canon 24mm TSE tilt & shift, Canon 65mm f2.8 MPE macro, Sigma 12-24mm f2.8 and Sigma 150-500mm f 5.6-6.3 OS.
