I mostly enjoy outdoor landscape photography and try to get the best from the nartural light at both ends of the day but mainly at dawn. I try to spend a couple of periods a year away from home in a cottage or caravan near or in areas of natural beauty. Pembrokeshire or Exmoor for example. I also enjoy taking pictures inside churches where the light range offers a big challenge and is best dealt with using technical aids such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques. Technology and computing combines well with photography for me in many ways. I like also to take indoor pictures of flowers and using macro techniques supported by home made lighting systems. The local GWR steam railway also provides photo opportunities several times per year. Portraiture and people photography is not for me so I avoid weddings. I am a member of Cheltenham Camera Club and enjoy entering local and national photographics competitions. Last year I achieved a CPAGB merit from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. See the slideshow on this page for the 10 prints making my successful entry. After a period of using film based Minolta equipment and doing some work in a darkroom to obtain C&G photographic qualifications, I have moved to be almost entirely digital. I have a range of Canon cameras and lenses. This includes a 5D Mk1, a 40D and a G9 compact camera. Lenses are Canon 24-105 f4 IS L. Canon 70-200 f4 IS-L. Canon 50mm f1.8. Canon 24mm TSE tilt & shift. Canon 65mm f2.8 MPE macro , Sigma 12-24mm f2.8, Sigma 150-500mm f 5.6-6.3 OS.
Before I retired from full time work I had a number of careers in electronics and IT. My final six years were spent as a C++ software engineer developing Active X components for a German based software company. I worked partly in UK and partly in the beautiful city of Karlsruhe in South Germany.
